So the other day I wrote about my experience on the set of the Colbert Report. Well, the Digg community picked up on it, and tore my site a new one. The site was temporarily suspended within two hours of being popular on Digg. When it was restored 9 hours later. ANYWAY, I learned a few things, namely how to use WP-Cache to cache your pages so it doesn’t cause so much server load. My hosts, Addaction.net did a great job of getting me back online. I don’t know exactly what they did, but it worked. So thanks to them. Also, I rolled out the latest version of WordPress and K2. For some reason, my site still looks like crap on Internet Explorer. So until I can figure out how to fix it, I recommend that you get Firefox.

Update: I had no idea that a second post on my website had also gotten digged. Well it didn’t take long for the internet police to shut down my site again. I don’t think my webhost was able to handle the server load, so i switched to Dreamhost. Let’s see how long that lasts. Two big diggs in two days was more than my poor site could handle! Hopefully my new host will be more robust. So far their customer service has been decent. I will keep you posted.

Colbert: Bill O’Reilly is a complete tool.

So yesterday afternoon I jumped out of work for a bit to attend a live taping of the Colbert Report! I ain’t gonna lie, it was pretty freakin’ sweet. The tickets took me like six months to get – it was a total pain in the ass. And then we got to wait an hour and a half in the freezing cold. Thanks guys. AND I had to go back to work until midnight in order to make up for the lost time. But it was totally worth it.

He interviewed Donna Shalala, who was Clinton’s former HHS Secretary. Big Whoop. But the best part was before the taping, he did a Q&A session with the audience. Colbert is just his normal self (i.e. not in character) during the Q&A, but it was amazing to see how high energy he is. He was totally amped, doing sight gags, hopping around, totally unlike the character he plays. As you know, Bill O’Reilly (“Papa Bear”) and Colbert appeared on each other’s shows recently. It was a ratings hit.

So anyway, during the Q&A, someone asked Colbert what he really thought of O’Reilly:

Audience Member: “What is Bill O’Reilly like in real life?”
Colbert: “A complete tool.”

True story. Like I said, pretty freakin’ sweet.

Update: I was able to get independent confirmation from someone else who was at the show here, at Colbert’s fan website, ColbertNation.com. She added that “The way he said it was funny, too. He really put emphasis on the word “complete”.” 🙂

Colbert the Unflappable, Flapped

Back when Stephen Colbert was a correspondent on the Daily Show, there was one clip where he just loses his trademark deadpan visage. Watching Colbert and eventually Jon Stewart crack at the end was actually funnier than anything they were trying to do deadpan.
